The concept of seamless garments is relatively new with its origin in Italy especially for underwear, sportswear, beachwear, outerwear and medical wear.
The concept has been picking -up as it has found a positioning in the fast evolving fashion market for many reasons that included a synergy between fashion and functional performance. The product range is diverse and while undergarments are hot favorite, tops, leggings, active wear shorts and swimwear
Further, seamless technology is flexible, as it allows the making of different structures like rib, net, jacquard, piquet, stripes, laces, as well as pre-sharpen structures, hidden supports, pockets, collars and hoods in one operation
However, seamless does not imply that there is absolutely no stitching; in fact, the sleeves and collar require traditional stitching attachments. Even in undergarments, a single stitching operation at the end joint is required. Welding, gluing and heat sealing are some production options for the usual sewing operations in use by high-end manufacturers of seamless garments.
The demand for organic cotton in seamless is also on the rise. While the European market is still working mostly with man made yarns, the U S is moving towards cotton yarns particularly in under garments.
Seamless is about body-hugging garments that are comfortable, the use of elastine/spandex is a normal practice.
